by Starborn from Winnipeg, MB, Canada | Oct 12, 2008 |
THE GOOD: -Great graphics/music -Many crops -Many animals -Great replay value -Many villagers to communicate with -8 people in each gender which you can marry -Different characters -A LARGE island to roam around on -Many items -Tools are more realistic -Mining is better than previous versions of this game -Fishing is great -Crops and items are good cost and sell for reasonable pricesTHE BAD: -Can get boring after a few months SUMMARY:
This is the box art for the game, “Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility”
Summary: Jump into the wild life, where everything seems realistic! This game is by far one of the largest Harvest Moon games ever to hit the shelves so far! Each day is a new adventure, and you will never know what will happen next!
Living on a Ranch: At the beginning of the game, you will get to choose from 3 different locations on where you would like to place your house! Of course, it starts off rather difficult to make any money. There are luckily many ways to make money on your ranch. You can grow, produce, and raise many types of crops. You can raise many animals on your farm too, as well as expand your farm to many locations to grow more, and raise more livestock! Not only that, but you can do many different things with the vegetables, fruits, and products being produced on your farm!
Planting Crops: Planting crops is rather similar from the other games. Each season there is a variety of different vegetables, fruits, and flowers which you can crow and plant on your farm land. Not only that, but you can even take care of them, and nurture them with water, and fertilizer to produce the best quality produce! What makes this even better? With the Wii-remotes abilities to actually move as if the tools were in your very own hand makes the game a lot more enjoyable, and realistic! I myself am a big fan of the game's crops. They produce looks incredibly realistic, and can be used for things such as cooking, and baking, as well as giving your lover a present!
Raising Animals: Raising animals in this game is still relatively the same as previous games! The good news is that there are many animals which you can care for that are new, like the Silkworm! Each animal produces different products. Eggs, milk, wool, and many different products can be given out from the animals which you raise! The animals are incredibly realistic, and pleasant to play around with, and groom! The game definitely is a realistic feeling one! I love the ability to own many different animals, and there are a lot more wild animals too that you can raise their affection towards you!
Love: Yes, like in most of the Harvest Moon games, you can marry! In this game for each gender, there is 8 different people which you can marry! Each with a different and unique personality! They will and can give you presents for being a nice person, and you will truly feel loved by them! You can also grow affection towards other villagers in the town! There is a large variety of people in your town, which you can grow, and learn with! You can befriend them too, and they will love you as much as you love them! I love how the game has all new characters, and each has a different personality! Each of them are also kind people in one way or another!
Tools: The tools in this game are an improvement from recent years! There are 6 basic tools in the game (Watering can, axe, hoe, sickle, hammer, and fishing rod). Each of them has a different purpose! They all can be upgraded at the general store, as well as at the Blacksmith's. The watering can will water your crops when you use it. The axe can cut down trees, and stumps into lumber used to build things. The hoe can till land so that you can plant crops there. The sickle will help you cut the crops, so you can make new ones for the next season. The hammer can help you break large rocks. Some in the fields which can be made into material stone, and some in the mines, which you can find different ores, and gems in. The fishing rod is used for fishing purposes. You can upgrade your tool up to Gold in this game, and you can also level your tool up just by using it many times!
Your House: Your house is an important part of the game! It is a place that you can call yours, and you can decorate however you want! There are many different items (like sofas, appliances, clocks, beds, etc..) you can buy from various places to make your house different from all of the rest! You can also upgrade your house 5 times, to make lots of room with all of the items you purchase! You can purchase different brands, and even remodel your house to a style which fits you perfectly! I love how large the house is from previous games, and how everything looks so realistic! The windows actually bring in light for the house on sunny days! It's definitely an awesome feature in the game!
Searching the Mines: In Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility, there are two mines you can scavenge in. The Ganache mine and the mine in Mt. Gelato! Both of these mines hold a large variety of different ores (such as iron, bronze, silver, and gold which can be used to upgrade tools), different gems, and different items as well! In the mines, there are special gases which can help you, or harm you! Everything is a chance in the mines, which makes the scavenging around for rare items more fun, and more anticipating to do it the next day!
Fishing: What would I do without fishing? Fishing is a fun way to get ingredients for various recipes, and to complete your list of fish to catch. There are different fish in different times of the year, and in different times of the day, as well weather can affect the types of fish that appear! You can sell, cook, or give your fish accomplishments to many people! Fishing I find is rather important, mainly because it is entertaining and you can get quite a lot of money off of it! I love the different fish in the game, and how they look so cool, as well as the many uses for the fish.
Cooking Cooking is definitely a plus in this game! There is a large variety of ingredients which you can make, buy, or find to make your dishes excellent! Cooking is a great addition to the game definitely! You can buy different appliances like ovens, and cutting boards to help you cook these items! Not only that, but you can also give what you make to your crush in the game! It will definitely raise their affection towards you, and you will enjoy taking your time to make them something! I love how there is different grades (decent, good, perfect, etc..) for the foods, as well how there is so many recipes to make, and so many ingredients to use! It's an awesome feature in the games, and by far, this game definitely made a crowd pleaser than previous Harvest Moon games!
Clothing: In this game, you can get 3 young females to move to your town, and sell various clothes, and accessories for you to wear! They are rather expensive though! The clothes in this game are a large improvement from the basic overalls from previous games! There are even accessories like bunny ears, which you can wear, and look cool in! I love how there is so many things to choose from to wear! It's really interesting!
Appeal/Audio The appeal of this game is excellent. The graphics are incredibly realistic, and everything looks nice too! The landscaping is a joy to view, and it feels as though you are actually living in the small area of Waffle Town! The size of the village is great too, with different journeys to unravel, and different people coming in and out of the town! The audio is also awesome. The songs in my opinion never get boring, and they are sweet, and simple! They are enjoyable, and fun to listen to!
Overall: The game has SOO much to offer, and there is just way too many things to cover up on in one review! The game is excellent, and it is definitely one of the best I have ever played! I would give this game a 9/10!

by Skywing from , , | Oct 8, 2008 |
THE GOOD:
- 8 Potential Bachellorettes
- 8 Potential Bachelors
- Use the Wii-mote to interact with the game
- A wide variety of mini games to play
- Awesome graphics, sound effects, and music
- One of a kind storyline
- The introduction of 2 new animals to the Harvest Moon series
- All new villagers
- Personalize your appearance with different outfits and accessories
- Personalize your house with a wide variety of furniture
- And so much more...
THE BAD:
- Some lagging in certain areas of the game
- A glitch in one of the bachelor heart events that freezes the game
SUMMARY: Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquilty takes place on a foreign island named Waffle Island. It is here that the 5 magic rainbows have disappeared and the Goddess Tree has died, and along with that, the weakening of the Harvest Goddess. One day a lone rancher moves to the island and it's up to that rancher to restore the rainbows, the island, and save the Harvest Goddess.
Play as either a male or a female as you start out fresh in this new land. Choose between three different house plots to live at. (Hilltop, Seaside, or Town) Either way, it's now up to you to start to cultivate the land and work to build and make the best farm ever.
Along the way you'll make friends, raise animals, befriend wild animals, participate in many mini games, and maybe even get married and start a family. All with the ultimate goal though, to save the Goddess Tree and save the Harvest Goddess.
As you progress in the story, more people will move to the island such as potential bachelors and bachellorettes, new stores, and brand new villagers that help to add to the island. But before that can happen...something else must happen first.
As you continue, you might find that one of the bachelors or bachelorettes (Depending on your gender) is starting to fall head over heels for you. Well it's up to you. Who will you marry? Will you start a family? There's a wide variety of choices to choose from and not all bachelors and bachelorettes have rivals so don't feel so rushed, you have time.
But like all Harvest Moon games, you have to die eventually, but this game introduces the ability to play as your child and take over the farm. But this requires the use of a certain item. What is it? That's for you to find out on your own.
This game features many new things that past Harvest Moon games did not feature:
- Two new animals: Silkworms and Ostriches
- Interact with the game by using the Wii-mote
- Befriend wild animals such as cats, weasels, dogs, penguins, pandas and more
- Actually but clothing and change your outfit
- Buy furniture and customize your house
- Let your legacy live on by playing as your child
~Animals and Health~ Like any Harvest Moon game, you are allowed to farm a variety of animals. In this game you have the options of Horses, Cows, Sheep, Ostriches, Chickens, Ducks, and Silkworms. Each one produces a different product of different quality that can be shipped for money. However, should you neglect the animals, like an other Harvest Moon game, they will get sick and if you still neglect them, they will die and as your animals’ health decreases, so will your friendship with the villagers. Ways of neglecting your animals include not feeding them, using your tools to hurt them, and leaving them out in bad weather such as rain, typhoons, snow, and blizzards.
~Farming~ The opportunity to farm has returned again with a wide variety of crops, flowers, and trees to grow. So take the Wii-mote in hand and farm till your heart’s content. Luckily for you, days of rain and typhoons you don’t have to water your crops but typhoons have the ability to destroy your crops, along with Blizzards. Like animal products, the crops have different ranks of quality that are affected by the fertility of the soil. The higher the quality, the higher the selling price.
~Tools~ When you first start out the game, you have no tools but soon after, you receive the hoe and watering can. As for the other tools; sickle, fishing rod, hammer, and axe; you’ll have to get those yourself. In this game you can level up in tool skill by using the tool and you can upgrade the tool itself by bringing it to the blacksmith to have it upgraded. A higher skill allows you to do more work and a higher tool grade allows you to use less stamina in the process.
Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility is the best Harvest Moon game to date and proves to be worth the money. (50$ in USA when first released) So now it's up to you...do you want to save that Harvest Goddess? Do you want to save Waffle Island? Are you even strong enough to do this? It'll all be revealed in Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility. |
